The Band Camino
October 30, 2025
The Band Camino played the Midland Theatre the day before Halloween. We had never been to this venue before, but we all really loved it. It is vastly better than the Truman, which is where most of our alt-rock favorites perform in KC. The Midland Theatre is extremely ornate and the acoustics are unmatched. It reminds me a lot of the Orpheum in Omaha, but the seats in the Midland have all been removed and there are now tiered floors allowing for the back of the theatre to view the stage from a higher vantage point than the front. The theatre was extremely packed for this show making it hard to see the stage, but without the tiers, but it would have been much worse!
To kick the night off, In Color, all decked out in Scooby-Doo costumes took the stage. My dad recently discovered this band and had downloaded their EP, Snow Day. For being a newer alt rock band, we really enjoyed their performance. The lead singer’s voice sounded amazing, especially with the Midland’s acoustics. Next, Almost Monday took the stage, with the lead singer Dawson Daugherty dressed as Napoleon Dynamite. This was extremely fitting as Dawson, who is already known for his infectious energy and dance moves, really took to the character busting out some of Napoleon’s signature dance moves. After originally being disappointed that Almost Monday cancelled their tour of small venues that included an Omaha stop, this performance helped make it up to us!
The Band Camino took to the stage last and per usual put on an incredible show. Every time we have seen them they’ve just kept getting better and better. The band and their stage crew dressed as the Wizard of Oz characters and surprisingly stayed in costume the entire performance! The tin man, lion, and wicked witch costumes had to have been extremely warm with all the stage lighting, so this was truly impressive. The setlist was really close to perfect—my one complaint being that two of my favorite songs (“I’m Sorry Mom” and “See You Later”) didn’t make the cut. Otherwise, we were blessed with all of their biggest hits, the performance of an unreleased song “Afterthought”, and a lovely acoustic cover of Justin Bieber’s “Daisies.” Both the full band and the acoustic sets had my whole family singing and dancing along.
After the concert, my mom commented on how rare it is to have two lights out lead vocalists in one band. This puts them near the top of her favorites list, and I agree. Jeffery Jordan and Spencer Stewart are both beautiful singers whose voices work perfectly together. This rarity makes for some of the best live music listening for all of their fans. We are so lucky!
