After 8 long years, I finally got to see Yungblud again in concert! This is a moment I’ve been waiting for and to celebrate, I made a custom top to wear to this show (see photos below)! Earlier this year, Yungblud performed at Red Rocks in Colorado a few days after my birthday. I wanted so badly to travel to see him, but it just didn’t work out. My little sister, who lives closer, traveled there to see him and said his show was absolutely fantastic. She sent me videos from the concert and I knew I couldn’t pass up the next opportunity to see him. So, when he announced a show in Council Bluffs, I joined his YBHG fan club and got the presale code asap. I was not messing around. I was able to secure four tickets and took my husband and parents to see the show.

Before the show, I saw videos of his merch that he sold on the other legs of his Idols tour. I absolutely fell in love with this sweatshirt that he sold which had spiders on the elbows, a large web design on the back, and the concert dates. I’ve always been a save not kill type of girl when it comes to spiders, but although I loved this merch I wasn’t sure if it would be available at the added tour dates. So, I decided to make a spider-inspired outfit of my own to wear to the show. At the time of the show, I was six months pregnant, and my baby bump was getting out of control. When designing the outfit, I thought it would be cool to have a spider web span across my bump. After hours of linking jewelry chain together, I think my outfit came together very cool. And, lucky me, I ended up securing the spider sweatshirt at the concert!! Below you can see a picture of me with my new favorite merch wearing the outfit that was inspired by it.

Now, back to the show! Yungblud’s show at Stir Cove was sold out and happened to be on the night of his 29th birthday. Despite the sold out crowd, there was plenty of room at the venue for lawn chairs and for standing without it feeling too claustrophobic which was very nice. Yungblud had an interesting set design incorporating large black wings from his recent album hanging over the stage, and a large screen behind him playing videos which doesn’t happen often at Stir Cove or outdoor venues in general.

He started his setlist with Hello Heaven, Hello, which made me nervous for his setlist. This song is long and he spent most of it straining his voice and singing every other word. It sounded like he was going to lose his voice, which given recent reports about recurring vocal cord issues, was scary. However, by his second song, The Funeral, he got into the groove and was able to belt out the rest of his songs without issue. Highlights of his setlist included The Funeral, Lovesick Lullaby, his grammy-award winning cover of Changes, and Zombie. Although his setlist was good, I really wish he would have played some of his older songs. His tour in 2018 was so fun at the height of his 21st Century Liability era and I would have died if I got to hear some of those songs played again. Also, coming in a 11 songs long, his setlist was really short. I understand that many of his songs are longer in length, but I still wish he could have covered more of his discography. Also, the impending storm didn’t help this cause either. He had to cut his encore short due to lightning in the area and finished performing Zombie right on time for the downpour and lightning to start. Despite my complaints, Yungblud puts on an amazing show. His energy is infectious and he never stops bouncing around the stage. I hope to see him again on his next North American tour!
