Papa Roach
April 10, 2025
Papa Roach absolutely killed it on their co-headlining tour with Rise Against. Not only did we have amazing music by Papa Roach, we also had the most amazing dinner beforehand at Block 16. For those of you who have been, you’ll know when I say that the chef’s creations are some of the most delicious dishes I’ve ever had, I mean it. April 10th just so happened to be a chicken and waffles special, which if you know me you will also know that this is one of the best combinations in my opinion. The chicken on this waffle was perfectly glazed wings and the waffle was exceptionally crispy, just how I like them. After we stuffed ourselves silly, we headed over to the CHI Health Center. As far as big venues go, CHI is not too bad. The seats are laid out extremely well so you can see over the group in front of you, unlike some venues I’ve been to where it is impossible to see if someone tall is in front of you. The beer choices include local brews from Kinkaider, which is super fun for a large venue.
To start off the concert, we caught a few song by Underoath. I was honestly impressed that such hard core screaming came from the lungs of the lead singer, who is stick thin. Their music is a little hardcore for my taste, but the band was extremely talented. After Underoath, we took a pit stop for some beer and merch. My flaming roach shirt is one of my new favorite concert t-shirts in the lineup. It looks so badass! After merch, we settled in for Rise Against. Honestly, I don’t know a ton of Rise Against’s songs outside of their hit song Savior, but they rocked. The stage set up had a large “RA” on a red flag behind them that looked amazing and really fit their vibe. They also had the coolest floor panels beneath them that we could see perfectly from the side of the stage we were sitting. I posted a picture below, but this attention to detail was extremely impressive.
Then, came the main event—PAPA ROACH! I knew practically every word to every song and sang my lungs out. Papa Roach sounded just like their recordings, which blew my mind. Every song was an absolute banger and we loved singing and dancing along. One of my favorites from the whole set was “Even if it Kills Me” which is their new single. This song is one of my favorites from this year and it was the perfect song to open the night. The only thing that could have made this setlist a perfect 10/10 would have been additions of songs from their 2019 album, Who Do You Trust?, which is arguably my favorite album. Despite the lack of my all-time favorite Papa Roach songs being included on the setlist, this concert landed in my top 10 of all-time. Filled with mosh pits on the floor, lots of local beer, and monster tunes, I won’t be forgetting this concert anytime soon.
