mgk
November 25, 2025
Earlier this year when we purchased tickets to see mgk at the CHI Health Center, we didn’t take into account how much the jet lag would be hitting us after getting back from Europe only two days earlier. The motivation to get out of the house and attend this concert was at an all time low. After debating whether we should sell our nosebleed tickets last minute for pennies on the dollar, we decided to suck it up and attend anyway. By the end of the show, we were wondering why we ever considered not going!
Thankfully for us, mgk hadn’t sold enough tickets to fill the venue for his high-priced arena tour. CHI decided last minute to close most of the upper bowl, which thankfully meant our tickets were relocated from the very last row in the entire 18,300 person venue to pretty amazing seats next to the stage. This unexpected upgrade was the start of a great night. We made it just in time to check out the merch and head to our seats. Although there was one Miss Sunshine shirt I liked and a Nebraska poster that was really sick, I couldn’t justify either purchase with the amount of money I had spent on merch this year. When we entered the arena we could see a large hand sticking out of the curtains. The curtains opened to reveal one of the coolest stages I have seen to date. Mgk’s face as the statue of liberty took center stage, with an arm reaching out to the crowd holding a cigarette (which yes, did in fact get “lit” by a lighter bigger than me in the middle of the show) went perfectly with his Lost Americana theme. The performance started with mgk coming out of the statue’s mouth while playing one of his new songs, outlaw overture.
The setlist for this show was incredible. Not only did mgk play every single song from his album Tickets to My Downfall for its 5-year anniversary, but he played many of his greatest hits, tons of songs from his new album, and even covered a few songs as well! This 32 song setlist was absolute perfection. My favorites included cliché, my ex’s best friend, and his cover of iris performed with his opener Julia Wolf. Omaha was also treated to the first ever live performance of WHO I WAS, mgk’s new song with rapper NF. Although he just performed his rap portion (from the first draft he prepared in his iphone notes), this was another highlight of the show. Throughout the whole set, I couldn’t stop thinking how personal and genuine mgk’s performance felt. While performing for thousands of people, he truly connected with each person in the crowd. I enjoyed him bringing fans on stage for his performance of my bloody valentine, and the part of his show where he brought a 7-year old boy on stage to perform not one, but three songs with him. He also did an audience choice song, where we got to choose between two different songs from the extended version of Tickets to My Downfall. Each of these moments felt so personal and like he genuinely loves his audience members and their participation which I thought was really cool. I thoroughly enjoyed this concert and hope to see mgk again in the future!
